Financial Planning
Comprehensive, proactive, analytically rigorous optimization of the financial decisions that matter, including:
- How long do I need to keep working at this demanding job?
- When could I downshift without worrying about income?
- How would buying a bigger and/or second home impact that timeline?
- How much house should I be buying?
- What’s the impact of sending my kids to private vs. public school?
- How much cash should I hold, and in what accounts?
- How do I maintain appropriate liquidity without excessive balances?
- What should I do with the bonuses and other lumpy inflows I receive?
- How should I plan for a down payment on a home I might soon be purchasing?
- How should I manage cash flow during my big upcoming home renovation?
- In what instances should I borrow, how much, and using what products?
- How can I aggressively source lower rates for my mortgage (or leverage my advisory firm’s scale to source them for me)?
- When does it make sense to borrow against my portfolio for short-term liquidity?
- When and how should I refinance my existing mortgage?
- How much should I save for college? When? In what accounts?
- How about private K-12 or grad school?
- What’s the optimal withdrawal strategy?
- How much term life insurance should I have above what my employer provides? How can I optimize its pricing and term lengths? If I previously purchased life insurance that isn’t appropriate for me (i.e., the wrong type or too expensive), what should I do about it?
- How about long-term disability insurance?
- Are my home, auto, and umbrella coverages optimized?
- Which benefits need to be leveraged, and which aren’t worth my money and/or time?
- How should these integrate with the rest of my financial picture?
- How could I be more intentional and purposeful with my giving?
- How could I maximize its tax-efficiency?
- Am I taking reasonable steps to protect my assets and optimize their eventual transfer to others without introducing unwanted complexity? Am I optimizing our estate tax exemption(s)?
- Do my accounts, assets, and insurance policies name the correct owners and beneficiaries?
- Have I done the “informal” planning necessary to ensure my family would know what to do if I died?
- Am I taking reasonable steps to protect my assets and optimize their eventual transfer to others without introducing unwanted complexity?
